The mysterious nature of pain

When we are in pain, we can show where we feel the pain with our fingers. But is its cause really there? Aren't there connections in the body that connect the different layers together? Cells respond to various neurological stimuli, glands secrete hormones, chemical substances pass from tissue to tissue, and our material base is subject to mysterious energy flows and influences that we cannot even measure.
